how to make facemask COVID19 ..... tags: 777covid19 777mask
- how to make face-mask ....
a face shield ...
a body suit ....
a PPHH
positive pressure head hood
this information may change at any time as I learn new things
I am exclusively targeting the avoidance and destruction of COVID19. C19K means COVID19-KILLER.
-- look for and buy : vacuum cleaner bags or filters that use use micro-filtration material.
I was able to buy HEPA filters and activated carbon filters from Amazon
-- cut out up to three pieces that will cover your nose and mouth.
-- cut out two pieces of loose weave cloth slightly larger than the filtration material.
-- create a pile of consisting of cloth , filtration material and finishing with cloth.
-- fasten the pile around the edges .... sew or glue or tape it
-- hold in place in front of your mouth and nose using a bandana or similar
FACE-SHIELD -- make or buy a clear plastic face shield that completely covers your face.
an example is at harborfreight.com look for SKU 46526 or 62995 or 96542
--- for as long as these items hold together ..... disinfect them daily. see my C19K disinfectant heat box.
-- all surgical masks are effective at keeping droplets from dispersing from your breath. They also stop droplets coming from other people. they are not very effective at stopping airborne viruses. The clear face shield also stops droplets. Both face shield and the mask prevent you from touching yourself.
HEPA filters are fairly good at stopping virus particles
-- if you wear gloves , take them off and put them to the side before removing mask and shield. Wash your hands , then remove the shield and mask. i keep pairs of gloves soaking in disinfectant. when I put them on I don’t have to worry about them contaminating my hands or my mask or my sheild.
-- you want to keep a virus away from your mouth , nose , eyes , and the rest of your face. Any scratches , cuts , open wounds on your body should be covered when you are in public.
-- To totally stop airborne viruses requires specialized filters and carefully sealed protective devices.
Don't be reckless about touching things and approaching infected humans just because you have a mask , shield or gloves.
===================
more information:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surgical_mask
The design of the surgical masks depends on the mode; usually the masks are three-ply (three layers). This three-ply material is made up from a melt-blown material placed between non-woven fabric. The melt-blown material acts as the filter that stops microbes from entering or exiting the mask.
They may not be effective against airborne viruses.
For healthcare workers, safety guidelines recommend the wearing of a face-fit tested respirator mask conforming to United States standard NIOSH N95 or European standard EN 149 FFP3 in the vicinity of pandemic-flu patients, to reduce the exposure of the wearer to potentially infectious aerosols and airborne liquid droplets.[17][18] The CDC provides information on manufacturers' products, and the importance of correct fitting of such masks (respirators). A printable factsheet has been designed for issue to those unaccustomed to respirator use.
If anyone knows of an effective liquid to dip a handkerchief in to kill COVID19 .... let me know

Michael Levin's Lecture on "Why Race Matters"
MICHAEL LEVIN claims to expose fallacies of arguments for IQ-EQUALITY between “whites” & “afro-americans”. LEVIN focuses on the inconclusiveness of various arguments …… ending in agreement with Charles Murray’s 1994 reading of evidence for a genetic basis for the black-white IQ differences.
LEVIN reports that Murray concluded the IQ-gap can not be got rid of …… so, might as well simply accept it.
{{ Zarathustra objects to LEVIN’s unexamined assumptions starting with (1) there exist different races …… as well as skimming over other assumptions …… (2) that IQ exists (3) that it predicts many life outcomes (4) that there is a gap between black IQ scores and white IQ scores (5) that IQ is at least partly heritable (as is almost every human trait )}}
STRIKE TWO against LEVIN are his commission of fallacies of his own while attacking his opponents’ fallacies. For example, re the argument that there is a wider gap in traits within a group, than there is between groups. LEVIN introduces his own counter-example of the group ‘dogs’ and the group ‘giraffes’. LEVIN would have been better off selecting creatures sharing the same genus. Since the dog is of the Canis genus and the giraffe belongs to the Giraffe genus, LEVIN’s example fails to prop up his intended point.
LEVIN also commits an omission when he fails to follow-up on a topic that would seem to be optimally positioned for LEVIN. He mentions in passing the fact that genes can behave differently in different loci resulting from gene-interactivity.
The listener is primed to learn more about the effects of gene interactivity.
LEVIN skips past, saying that the explanation is too complex for this lecture.
If LEVIN wants to answer the question why “race matters” it would make sense to offer some detail on the import of epistatic genes that inhibit hypostatic genes at another locus.
The lecture begins to feel like a “grab the trophy …… never mind the small stuff“ momentum event.
In the Q & A afterward, LEVIN is asked whether he believes it would be better if the government stayed out of it:
LEVIN’s response reveals that his concern is mainly political, rather than philosophical or scientific. LEVIN says YES - it would be better if each organization or business were free to hire according to their own preferred criteria.
He offers medical training as an exception: a political policy like “affirmative action” would be a bad thing to apply to selection of med school candidates.
LEVIN’s lecture would be better named “WHY AFFIRMATIVE ACTION IS A BAD IDEA IF IT RESULTS IN MEDICAL DOCTORS WHOSE IQ SCORE IS 15 POINTS LOWER THAN THE HIGHER IQ DOCTORS?

I came, I saw , I unplugged the toilet ..... clogged toilet
99Toilet issues
The upstairs guest toilet got plugged by JY poop.
I had configured the toilet for vigorous action including extra water
so the toilet overflowed. , The plunger did not fit toilet well and
I could not clear the poop. Finally I used an old towel as a gasket…. I cut a
two inch ( 6 cm ) hole in the middle of the towel and laid it in the middle of the bowl.
I put the plunger through the hole. I used another towel to “roof” the
plunger to reduce splashing.

It is also a good idea to use dish cleaning soap …. Followed by hot ( not boiling ) water.

Investigations into SQ13 , SQ11 , etc. cameras ... review
SQ13 cube camera and DVR
Disassembly of SQ13 ( teardown )
reverse engineering ,
see the following images ....
SQ13 Audio
Audio recording is not very strong. The microphone is in what seems to be a disadvantageous location.
SQ13 Battery
It appears to have a protection circuit as part of the battery. The battery is rated at 3.7V and 300mAh. Any add-on battery should have the same.
Disassembly of SQ11 ( teardown )
SQ11 images
SQ11 Battery
I saw no markings on the battery. It is probably a 3.7 volt lithium. It appears to have a protection circuit as part of the battery. Any add-on battery should have the same.

Restoring an SLA battery one experiment
Around 2017m05d22 I pulled a 12V SLA battery from a trailer. The SLA was being used to power the emergency braking system for the trailer. I did not know how old the battery was or when it was last charged. Here is a photo of the battery.
My DMM measured 6.3V across the SLA. My experience says this means the battery is near death and cannot be restored. I chose to mess with it anyway. I put the battery on a 14.3V / 2A charger and measured a voltage of 13.9V. This usually means the battery is not accepting charge and is presenting a high impedance to the charger. I left the charger connected overnite. The next day the voltage was still 13.9V. I disconnected the charger and the voltage was 12.2V ...... this was a surprise. I do not yet have an explanation for it.
I shorted the SLA with a spoon for 2 seconds and got a big spark and some glowing metal. Afterward the voltage was still 12.2V. With the charger connected the voltage was now 13V.
I will continue to monitor this battery.

48 LED Infrared Spotlight Schematic ... bought on eBay
This is the schematic for a spotlight available on eBay as of 2017m03d01 ....
I measured one diode chain as 11.66 VDC , 10.22 , 8.75 , 7.30 , 5.86 , 4.43 , R10 , 3.45 , 2.01
Purchased qty 4 from eBay ~ $3 each with CdS photocell 12VDC
When dark , spotlight should turn on. When dark , CdS in series with 345K resistor causes voltage to base of Q2 ( PNP ) to drop below voltage at emitter which is approximately 6v ( using forward drop of IR LEDs as voltage reference ) ...Q2 turns on current flows into the base of Q3 ( NPN ) through a 1K resistor. The emitter is tied to ground. Q3 turns on and
Q1 is a power transistor that connects to 8 Strings of LEDs with a 27 ohm resistor in series in each string. Q1 has a 2.2 ohm resistor between it’s ?? and ground. This is used for current sensing.
There are 11 resistors, 3 transistors , no capacitors , no inductors. IRC can turn Spotlight on and off.
The coating on this PCB is very dark and hard to scratch ... so following the traces was difficult.
The 27 ohm resistors typically have 1V across them when the spotlight is on. This means 36 ma is flowing through each string or about 288 ma for 8 strings. the voltage across R3 is about 0.6V which is 272 ma. My DMM is a $5 cheapie .... so these readings are approximate.

So far I have not had a brilliant idea of how to use these individual parts or how to refill the pen.

Making FTDI devices work with macOS Sierra
I could not get an FTDI FT8U232AM evaluation device to work under Apple macOS Sierra ( 10.12.1 )
The device was listed in the System Report .....
( About This Mac .... System Report ..... USB )
After Googling various internet sites , and removing some files , I was successful in using the device with the app "Coolterm".
To do so I used the Terminal app and typed
ls -lctr /Library/Extensions/
I found .kext files for Wacom and for FTDI.
I also used the HoudahSpot app to search for files with the .kext extension.
I trashed these three :

Three Mac installations... two fails.
I installed Airdroid ( AD ) ( 2016m08d08 ) on two Mac laptops and a Mac Mini. When I invoked AD on two of the Macs the application quit unexpectedly.
When installing on each failure I got a cryptic message indicating that access to Developer tools was required. This is NOT mentioned in the installation procedure. I imagine there is something wrong with the downloaded installation package or with my laptops.
I am running Kaspersky Virus scan on my laptops to determine if a virus is the problem.
I installed AD successfully on Samsung Avant Galaxy Android smartphone. 2016m08d08
I installed AD successfully on a WIN10 laptop. ( Leviathan )
I have not found adding devices easy to do. In over 24 hours I have failed to add even one device.
I am trying the Premium version of AD for one month ( $2 ) ( $38 for two years ) I find Premium very confusing.
Changing accounts is quite a chore. I installed AD on a Samsung smartphone and it assumed ( for me ) that I would like to use my google account information. It was wrong. Now I have wasted much time trying to change my account to one *that I want*. Uninstalling AD requires a password ( which I do not have ). This I do not like.
So far I do not like Airdroid. I hope to learn more likeable things about it in the future.

Adding external Microphone to Android tablet or SmartPhone
Many Android devices ( smartphones , tablets, etc. ) are great for filming events and people. You can improve your videos by using an external microphone. The most important part of a typical video is high quality sound. More important than the lighting or focus or .......
I performed most of these experiments on a Samsung Galaxy Avant smartphone circa May 2015.
Choosing a microphone
Many microphones will work with a android device. The key issue is to have a microphone that puts out an active signal ( not to exceed 1 volt ). Some microphones produce an active voltage. Some require a battery ( voltage source ) to do so.
Many computer microphones ( that plug into a 3.5mm jack ) depend on the computer supplying a voltage for operation. See images at the end of this post.
A dynamic microphone produces a voltage without any external voltage sources. I experimented with a AKG-D70-ME.
A condensor microphone requires an external voltage source. I experimented with an un-named condensor microphone I found in my junk box.
Getting the correct adapter cable
You will want to buy an adapter cable with a 3.5mm audio jack with 4 connections on it ( TRRS: tip-ring-ring-shield ). See image at end of this post. There are two versions of this, so make sure to get the correct version. I bought mine at MicroCenter.com for $5. You can get them on eBay. Make sure the TRRS is ear-ear-ground-microphone ( iPhone compatible ) .
Testing your tablet or smartphone
Plug in the adapter cable to the Android device ( headphone jack ). Plug your microphone into the adapter cable. Plug your headphones into the adapter cable. Use an audio sound recorder application. My phone indicated that an external microphone was activated. ( This does not prove the microphone is working. ) Try recording and speak into the microphone. Try different distances and speaking levels. Try windscreens and pop screens. At each test announce what you are testing. Example: " I am 3 inches from microphone .... testing the black windscreen. I am speaking loudly."
Adjusting the sound level
Sound level applications are available at the online Android Apps Store ........ many good ones are free. Using the app you can adjust the sound level of your microphone.
1) by the distance the microphone is from the subject
2) by muffling the microphone with soft foam
3) your microphone may have a signal level adjustment. ( Or you may be rich and be using a mixer )
4) editing the sound later .... using a video editing application. There are many to choose from ( many are free ) I choose to move videos to my Apple MacIntosh to edit.
Avoiding hum and wind noise.
Cables must be shielded. Using a balanced microphone cable is advised.
Putting a pop filter and/or windscreen on a microphone can improve the sound quality. You can make ( DIY do it yourself ) these easily using soft foam or even thick fabric.

Microphones come in a myriad of sizes and shapes. You cannot tell what kind a microphone is just by looking at it.
